Spencer County Students, Put On Your Thinking Caps! |
 |

Spencer County Public School students, grades 3-8 and grades 10 and 11 will be participating in the Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress or K-PREP assessment between April 30th through May 11th during various days and times.
The new K-PREP assessment is a blended model built with norm-referenced test (NRT) and criterion-referenced test (CRT) which consist of multiple-choice, short-answer and extended-response items.
Parents can help their students succeed in taking the assessment by doing the following:
- Mark down assessment days on your calendar so you and your child are both aware of testing dates.
- Have your children in bed by a reasonable time so they are well-rested for the assessment.
- Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast by either giving it to them before you send them to school or by having them take advantage of the school cafeteria.
- Make sure your child does not miss any school days during this assessment window.
- Make sure your child is on time to school during the assessment window.
- Encourage your child to do their best when taking the assessment, but don't pressure them to get anxious about their assessment either.
- Keep a positive attitude about the assessments.
- Praise/reward your child when they do well on the assessment or for their hard work during the assessment window.

ReadyKentucky is an initiative to help teachers, parents and other involved Kentuckians understand and prepare for the state's new academic standards that will help our students succeed in college and the workplace. Kentucky's educators have led the state in making significant, documented progress in student achievement. Building on that progress, Kentucky is once again leading the nation and our teachers are already hard at work adopting new standards that are more focused and relevant for the real world -- reflecting the knowledge and skills that young people need today.....and tomorrow.
If you would like more information about ReadyKentucky, you can visit this website at www.ReadyKentucky.org or come to the Board of Education office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday to request some literature. There is a limited amount of literature available.
